The Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team recently conducted an intensive foil testing session in Cagliari, focusing on their latest foils, Wings 03 & 04. Despite the limited time from 10 am to 11:50 am, the team’s efforts were notable for their intensity and precision.

Morning Session: Testing the Limits

The session began with the team assessing the wings and flaps using various tools such as cameras and pressure strips. This was crucial for gathering important data on their performance. The Flight Controllers showed their expertise by handling Luna Rossa skillfully in the increasing breeze, testing the yacht at low altitudes with challenging cant angles and rudder positions.

Helmsmen’s Expert Maneuvers

Jimmy Spithill and Francesco Bruni, the helmsmen, were at the forefront, pushing the foils to their limits. They performed rapid bear aways and executed high-speed round-ups with remarkable control. The sail trim, especially with the J4 and the M2 mainsail, was precise, indicating a high level of skill and preparation.

This upcoming event is an opportunity for them to measure their progress against other teams. However, their main focus remains on refining their development boat for the final racing version.

On-Water Activities: Detailed Recon Report

The day’s on-water activities were thoroughly documented. The LEQ12 prototype was prepared early in the morning, with the team focusing on both the starboard and port wings. The yacht underwent several tests, including tacks and gybes, to evaluate its performance in different conditions.
